Maeve McCarthy

Born and raised in Dún Laoghaire, Co Dublin, Maeve has exhibited widely in Ireland and internationally. After graduating from NCAD (National College of Art and Design) she left Ireland for several years and has lived in the USA and Germany. She recently returned to Dublin after living on Ireland’s South western Dingle Peninsula. She works with traditional materials: egg tempera and oil on handmade gesso, but is influenced by the contemporary: moving image, camera and artificial light. Her small scale rural nighttime landscapes are rich with ideas of place and home, leaving, longing and returning.
Awards include the Irish-US Council for Commerce & Industry Portrait prize, RHA (2006). Her portrait of author, Maeve Binchy is in the portrait collection of the National Gallery of Ireland. Maeve’s most recent exhibition The Return (RHA Ashford Gallery, 2016) was praised as ‘immensely atmospheric’ by the Irish Times. She is a member of the RHA (Royal Hibernian Academy)
